"Breathe."

That is the whole of it.

A small store

Dravyaa is a small store in Mumbai that makes clothes from two fabrics — handspun khadi, and linen. We do not make anything else. We do not plan to.

The fabrics breathe, in the literal way that natural fibres do — releasing heat, softening with wear, creasing in the places you sit. They also breathe in another way. Wearing them feels like an exhale. Like the day has slowed down. Like there is a little more room in your chest than there was an hour ago.

That is what we are trying to make.

My father's shop

My father spent his life dreaming of a small boutique of his own. He wanted a place where he could sell cloth he believed in, talk to the people who bought it, and spend his days surrounded by quiet good things. He never built it.

Dravyaa is that shop.

I am not finishing his dream so much as inheriting it — taking it on, in the way you take on a careful thing somebody loved. The store will not be exactly what he imagined. He worked in a different time, a different city, a different India. But the spirit is his. A small place. Honest cloth. People who matter, by name.

How we make

Slowly.

Khadi takes time. Each metre is hand-spun on a wheel and hand-woven on a loom. There is no machine that can do this faster while still being khadi. The weavers we work with sit in villages in Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra. We pay them fairly, on time, every time.

Linen, we source from Indian and European mills with traceable supply chains. The cutting and stitching happens in a small unit in Mumbai run by a tailor we have known for years. Every piece we send out has been worn, washed, and tested by someone on the team. If it does not feel right on, it is not sold.

In the early days, you may receive your order three weeks after you place it. We make most pieces only after they are bought. This is partly a practical choice — a small store cannot hold inventory the way a large one can — and partly a deliberate one. We do not want a warehouse of unsold cloth.

What you will notice

Khadi has slubs. Small irregularities where the spinner's hand briefly thickened the thread. These are not flaws. They are the signature of handmaking, and we are glad they are there.

Linen wrinkles. It will wrinkle on the way home from the laundromat. It will wrinkle when you cross your legs. We think this is a feature, not a problem. A garment that holds its shape too perfectly is hiding something.

The colours of natural fibres vary slightly between dye lots. We will photograph your fabric in honest light. The garment that arrives will look like the photograph — within the small variations that natural materials produce.

What we promise

And, when something goes wrong — a late shipment, a fit that is not right, a fabric that did not behave as we hoped — to be the first to reach out, not the last.

Where we are

Mumbai. We do not have a physical store yet. Eventually, when the time is right, we will open a small one — a real boutique, not a flagship. Until then, we ship anywhere in India in three to seven days, and internationally in two to three weeks.

If you are in Mumbai and would like to see fabric in person before ordering, write to us. We will find a way.
